Hi everyone,

I've decided to put my journey as a small business owner into writing, and I'm starting today with this first blog post.

Our topic today : life and struggles before the jewelry brand, I'm excited to give you a glimpse into my journey.

I'm 35, and I've loved rings and jewelry since I was a teenager. Back then, I especially loved how sparkly Swarovski crystals were, and I used to make rings with Swarovski pearls, like these!

  

They were my first little handmade business, and honestly, I made pretty good pocket money with it ! 😊 My first customers were family, friends, and their wider circle of acquaintances.


Unfortunately, life often demands conformity, making it difficult to believe in our dreams. Daily insecurities and economic hardships can take their toll. Years went by and I eventually found myself in an office job... The job was fine, and honestly, I was lucky to have it. I had a steady paycheck, which was a huge relief (except for the usual office drama, you know how it goes!). But, waking up every day to do something I didn't enjoy was draining. The idea of doing it for the next forty years was just... crushing. I'd think, 'Forty more years before freedom ?' How depressing is that for someone young?
Like so many people in Switzerland and around the world, I lost my job when COVID struck at the end of 2019. It was awful, of course, but also, in a way, a blessing. I never would have quit on my own, leaving that comfort zone was just too scary. 


In the time since, I insisted and looked for a new office job. But between unemployment, humiliating interviews and a lot of dead-end job searches, I had time to think about myself and what I wanted. I knew office jobs were pointless for me. Eight hours of paperwork felt like a waste of my life. No more. Why not go back to what I loved? I've always had a thing for rings! But this time, it was serious business. 

Fueled by my savings and a leap of faith, I embarked on building this website. Initially, it was just curiosity driving me, I'll admit. But slowly, almost unconsciously, it evolved into something much more serious... I was a total newbie (outside of my crystal Swarovski handmade rings), but I was determined to learn. There were so many things I didn't even know I didn't know! 😊 Though while Shopify offered a wealth of pre-made designs, making it truly 'mine' required patience and effort. Thankfully my brother is also around to help with coding (because yes dear Shopify, you are full of bugs) 😊

And what about the products themselves ? How to bring something different to online shoppers ? My search began for beautiful jewelry designed for women. While I've always lacked the confidence to sell my own handmade rings (and they're likely no longer trendy), I was determined to find unique, empowering, and high-quality pieces. Silver rings, perhaps, but at a price point that wouldn't empty anyone's wallet. After all, as a young woman, I understood the struggle of affording fashionable accessories. And I must tell you, finding unique and quality jewelry proved to be a lengthy search.

To summarize, while passion was essential, I experienced difficulties at each step, website glitches, custom issues, suppliers issues, you name it. It was rough! And I'im still not out of the woods, I'll tell you more about that in the next article ... our first Whakapaïpaï collections 🌟

              Scope of application

              The General Terms and Conditions of Business (hereinafter referred to as "GTC") apply to all legal
              transactions concluded on the online shop whakapaïpaï.ch
              Whakapaïpaï reserves the right to change these GTC at any time. The GTC version valid at the time of the order
              is decisive and cannot be changed unilaterally for this order. Any customer's terms and conditions that
              contradict or deviate from these GTC are not recognized.
              The products and services offered in the online shop are intended exclusively for customers who have
              their residence/head office in Switzerland or Liechtenstein.
              Deliveries are only possible to addresses in the above-mentioned countries.


              Products and prices

              The article images in the online shop, social networks etc. serve as illustrations and are non-binding.
              All sales prices published in the online shop are final prices in Swiss francs, including VAT.
              Whakapaïpaï reserves the right to change the prices of items without prior notice. The price indicated in the
              online shop at the time of the order is decisive for the conclusion of contract.


              Availability and delivery time

              All information regarding availability and delivery time is given as an indication and can be changed at
              any time.


              Conclusion of contract

              Articles and prices published in the online shop Whakapaïpaï are considered as offers. However, these offers are
              always subject to the resolutive condition of an inability to deliver or an erroneous price indication.
              The contract is concluded with Whakapaïpaï as soon as the customer places an order in the online shop, by phone
              or by e-mail.
              In the case of an online order, order receipt is confirmed to the customer by means of an automatically
              generated e-mail confirmation. The order confirmation only informs the Customer that the online shop
              has received the order and that the contract has therefore been concluded with Whakapaïpaï provided that the
              order can be delivered, and the price indicated is correct.


              Customer's duty of control

              The customer is required to check the delivered items immediately upon receipt for condition, correctness
              and completeness.
              Any errors or damage must be reported to Whakapaïpaï immediately after their occurrence or at the latest within
              3 calendar days upon receipt of the items. The customer is not allowed to use a damaged product.

              Payment

              Payments must be made in Swiss francs.
              Accepted payments are as follows:

              • Credit cards (Visa & MasterCard)
              • Debit Postcards
              • PostFinance
              • PayPal
              • Twint

              In case of payment by credit card or other instant payment means, the debit takes place at checkout.


              Return

              Any item purchased on the online shop whakapaipai.ch can be returned within 14 calendar days of receipt if the
              following conditions are met :

              • The item has not been damaged.
              • The item has no signs of wear and tear.
              • Proof of purchase (invoice) is in the customer's possession.

              The article must be returned in its original box to the address indicated under the section "Contact" of the
              online shop whakapaipai.ch. If the original box is missing or damaged, Whakapaïpaï reserves the right to charge CHF 5.00
              per item.
              All returns must be submitted with a copy of the invoice for the order concerned.
              The return costs are covered by Whakapaïpaï under the condition that the customer uses the means put at his/her
              disposal by Whakapaïpaï to send back the ordered articles, nevertheless any loss or damage caused by the
              transport will be fully paid by the customer.

              Refund / exchange

              To the extent that the item can be returned, Whakapaïpaï will exchange or refund the full purchase price upon
              receipt of the item at the customer's request. For purchases made with a credit card, the refund will be
              credited to the same card that was used to make the purchase, otherwise according to the customer's
              instructions, the refund may be credited to a bank or postal account or as a credit note in the customer's
              account.
              In the case of an exchange, the customer may choose an equivalent item (same purchase price).


              Warranty

              All items in the online shop whakapaïpaï.ch have a 2-year warranty from the date of delivery. The warranty only
              covers the absence of defects. Whakapaïpaï will apply the warranty services as follows:
              1. Up to 1 year from the date of delivery, Whakapaïpaï reserves the right to choose on a case-by-case
              basis between a full refund of the article or a voucher for the purchase price.

              2. After 1 year from the date of delivery, the guarantee will be provided in the form of a credit
              note for the purchase price.


              Warranty disclaimer

              Excluded from the warranty are damages caused by normal wear and tear (tarnish, scratches, etc.), as well
              as damages due to improper use, lack of precaution, accident (loose stones due to impact, deformation,
              etc.).


              Jurisdiction and applicable law

              The legal relationship between Whakapaïpaï and the customer is subject to Swiss law. The place of jurisdiction is
              Geneva.
